Why strategies fail!

For the last 30 years I've been fortunate enough to spent my time within organisations who develop and implement strategies really well. It's not difficult, but there are many pitfalls and all of them are easy to fall into - often without realising! For example, up to 90% of strategies fail not because the strategic objectives are at fault, but because of poor implementation. If you've been to an offsite management workshop, come back with some great ideas and then not much changes, then you'll know what I mean!

The subject of poor strategy implementation has been extensively researched by some of the world's leading business schools. Essentially, organisations are making the same mistakes now as they were 30 years ago. I've set out some of the key reasons for failure below and what leaders can do to mitigate them. None of it is rocket science! (Apologies if you are a rocket scientist.)

Up to 90% of strategies fail because of poor implementation. This short video highlights the pitfalls!
